Volleyball takes win streak into conference

Coming off a five game win-streak, the Roadrunners head into conference play atop the Southland Conference (SLC) West division at 6-6.

In their five-game winning streak, UTSA had big victories against the University of Georgia Bulldogs at home, 3-1.

Sophomore Kendra Rowland had a game-high 24 kills. Rowland leads the SLC in kills with 182, averaging 3.87 a match.

The Roadrunners won their first preseason tournament championship in more than 14 years, sweeping DePaul, Ball State and Denver at the DePaul Invitational.

Rowland collected Most Valuable Player honors and was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week.

San Antonio native Kelsey Jewasko led the Runners with 57 digs in the tournament. She leads the SLC with 205 digs; 26 more than second place.

Freshman Elise Huskey is second on the team with 112 kills and 108 digs.

The combination of sophomore Valorie Rogers and sophomore Stefanie Robbins led the team with 26 and 25 blocks respectively. Freshman Amber Brooks is first on the team with 394 assists.

UTSA opens conference play this weekend, Sept. 26 and 27 against two rival SLC opponents in UT-Arlington and Texas State.

The Runners opened last season against these two squads and lost both match-ups. UTSA went 0-4 against both teams last season.

The first game, Sept. 26 against UT-Arlington begins at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
