Volleyball splits weekend matches

UTSA split their weekend games, being swept by the Sam Houston State Bearkats (11-16) in three sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-23) Thursday night in the Convocation Center.

In the loss to the Bearkats, Kelsey Jewasko had 15 digs, while Kendra Rowland added eight kills and 16 digs.

The Runners returned the favor to the Lamar Cardinals (11-9) Saturday, in a three set victory, 25-16, 25-13, and 25-15.

The Runners had a sound attack on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Runners had a trio of players in double figures in kills. Sophomore Kendra Rowland had 12 kills, sophomore Briana Mason 11 kills, and junior Stefanie Robbins 11 kills. Defensively, the Runners had two players in double figures in kills. Freshmen Kelsey Jewasko racked up 20 digs, while Elise Huskey had 15.

With the loss and win, UTSA moves to 16-9 overall and 8-3 in SLC play.

UTSA’s next game is against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Tuesday night Nov. 4. At 7 p.m. The Runners are currently in third place in the Southland Conference (SLC) West division, trailing Lamar 9-2 and first place Texas State 11-1.
