The UTSA Roadrunners (7-9) bounced back from their heartbreaking loss last week to Southern Louisiana University to sweep their weekend series’ against the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (SFA) 3-1 Friday night in Nacogdoches, and the Sam Houston State Bearkats (SHSU) 1-0 in Huntsville on Sunday.

The Ladyjacks (6-7) got things started with an unassisted goal by forward Amanda Alders, eight minutes into the first half.

SFA carried the 1-0 lead into halftime. The Runners outshot the Ladyjacks 14 to seven shots on goal (SOG).

UTSA came out of halftime and scored three unanswered goals.

Defender Erin Mackay and midfielder Celeste Carruth tied the score 1-1 one minute into the second half.

UTSA struck again, this time with midfielder Kasi Hebert and forward Taylor Padia pairing up to put the Runners on top, 2-1 in minute 68.

Ball movement was major on UTSA’s third goal when forward Kim Gonzales passed the ball to Padia, who returned the ball back to Gonzales for the score that sealed the game for UTSA, putting them on top 3-1.

The Runners continued their success Sunday afternoon when they took on the Sam Houston State Bearkats (SHSU), defeating them 1-0 in Huntsville.

Forwards Allison Dillon, Erin Mackay, and Veronica Najera teamed up to score UTSA’s only goal 22 minutes into the first half to give the Runners a 1-0 lead which they took into halftime.

The Bearkats (7-5) had four attempts in the second half to try and even the score, but each attempt was denied by goalkeeper Nicoline Joergensen.

With the two weekend victories, UTSA moves to 7-9 overall and 4-2 in Southland Conference (SLC) play.

The wins also place the Runners in third place in the SLC, behind Texas State and McNeese State.

UTSA has a 1 p.m. match-up against rival Texas State (9-3-3) Sunday, Oct. 26 at Roadrunner Field.
