Roadrunners continue winning ways

UTSA was able to take care of business again Monday night in the Convocation Center as they defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, in the final non-conference game of the season, 71-50. The win gives UTSA an overall record of 10-8 for the season.

Tyler Wood had a game high 14 points as three Roadrunners ended the game in double figures.

Also in double figures for the Roadrunners was freshman forward Jeromie Hill with 13 points and sophomore guard Melvin Johnson III with 10.

The Roadrunners hot shooting in the second half was too much for the Aggies to handle as they opened the half on a 16-2 run. UTSA would never look back after that. The Roadrunners pressing defense proved worthy as they were able to come up with 12 steals for the game and force 17 turnovers against the Aggies.

“It starts with our defense,” Hill said after the game. “When we play good defense it transitions over to our offensive game, and we start becoming more confident.”

The Roadrunners are on a three game winning streak after Monday night’s win. UTSA’s next game is on the road as they head to Huntsville to face another conference rival; Sam Houston State. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be heard on 92.5 FM The Patriot.
