Men’s tennis sweeps Praire View

    The UTSA men’s tennis team defeated Prairie View A&M, 7-0, in its regular season finale Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.

    The Roadrunners improved its overall standings to 8-11, while Prairie View A&M dipped to 9-12 on the year.

    The Runners began the day winning all three doubles matches. Seniors Hetori Chaves and Anthony Portois paired up for the 8-0 win over sophomores Luis Godoy and Jose Talavera of PVAM, at the No.1 doubles.

    At the No. 3 doubles, seniors Joe Oflindo and Jonas Hoglund won in their final regular season match with a 8-3 defeat of sophomores Andy Narido and Nicolas Bateman.

    In singles actions, UTSA won all six matches in straight sets. Hoglund won his first match of the season at the No. 1 singles over Narido, 6-2 and 6-2. Portois cruised past Bateman 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. In the fifth spot, Olfindo easily handled his opponent by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.

    Also in action was Chaves, who won his match 6-3 and 6-4 over L. Godoy of PVAM. Picking up wins for UTSA were Adam Becker and Robin Fernandes in straight sets.

    UTSA tennis team travels to Arlington, Texas, site of the 2006 Southland Conference Tournament on April 28-30 at the UTSA Tennis Center.
