BBall-Morris

The Roadrunners came up short Saturday night as Texas A&M Corpus Christi pulled away in overtime and handed UTSA a 62-66 loss.  Senior Morris Smith’s game-high 19 points were not enough as the team struggled offensively, shooting only 18-39 from the field.
Corpus Christi was the aggressor early in the game and were able to jump to an early 9-6 lead. UTSA came back and defensively forced Corpus into 13 turnovers in the first half. The energy on the defensive end allowed UTSA to climb back and finish the first half on top, 26-23.
In the second half, Corpus A&M turned it up defensively and with the help of Kevin Palmer (18 points team high), Corpus eventually took the lead from UTSA 42-41 with just under 10 minutes to play.
UTSA slowly built a comeback and tied the game with a Morris Smith  3-pointer with 20 seconds left in regulation. With the last possession and under five seconds on the clock, Corpus turned the ball over to Devin Gibson (10 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, four steals) but Gibson  missed the lay up at the other end to finish regulation time.
In overtime, Corpus took the lead 60-58 and never allowed UTSA to gain it back. UTSA had one last chance to tie the game with three seconds left in overtime, but Smith’s 3-point attempt  rimmed out. With this loss, UTSA falls to 2-2 in Conference play and gives the Runners an overall record of 12-5.
The next home game for the men will be Jan. 30 against Lamar University
