The McMurry War Hawks stayed undefeated (3-0) thanks to a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Trailing by one point, the War Hawks’ forward Will Adams launched a last second shot that banked in, resulting in a 73-71 loss for the UTSA Roadrunners (0-3) on Monday, Nov. 18 at the Convocation Center.

“The ball had a crazy bounce. That’s part of the game,” said UTSA guard Hyjii Thomas, who scored a career-high 23 points on 55percent shooting from the field. “It happens.”

Thomas started the game as UTSA leading scorer averaging 19.5 points per game. His previous career-high was 22 points that he collected against the Houston Cougars last Thursday.

McMurry was lights out from 3-point range on the night, hitting 6-of-11 shots from downtown and scoring on 50 percent of their field goal attempts.

The Roadrunners were trailing by three points at the half, but went on a 9-5 run to regain the lead about five minutes into the second half. After trading leads, UTSA went up 68-62 with only five minutes left in the game.

That’s when the War Hawks started chipping away at the lead. A jumper by Kourtney Goff cut the UTSA lead to one before Adams made his dramatic 3-pointer.

The Roadrunners will try to bounce back on Thursday, Nov. 21 when they face the Texas-Pan American Broncos (2-4) at the Convocation Center.
