Baseball sits Atop the SLC

UTSA sits atop the Western Division of the Southland Conference (SLC) after a three-game sweep of Northwestern State (17-16, 9-5 SLC).

The Roadrunners (24-11, 11-4 SLC) have won nine of their last 12 games, including six out of seven on the road.

Senior first baseman Trent Lockwood hit a pair of homers Sunday to continue his weekend RBI attack on the Demons. Lockwood preceded Sunday’s performance with two consecutive five RBI outings.

Junior pitcher Kris Ruepke carried a shut-out into the eighth inning before pitching a complete game, allowing just six hits and two runs, bringing his overall record to 3-2 with a 6.43 ERA.

Junior shortstop James Keithley is one game shy of tying UTSA’s 23-game hit streak record held by J.R. Voyles.

The Runners return home for a three game series against SLC Western Division rival UT-Arlington (15-20, 8-7 SLC) before a trip up I-35 for a meeting with the Longhorns on Wednesday, April 23.

Sophomore Ryan Proudfoot (4-2, 4.42 ERA) gets the start for the Runners and opens up a two-game non-conference series against Lamar (20-14, 10-5 SLC).

Look for UTSA to come out swinging against a Cardinals squad that has lost six out of their last eight games.
