Senior forward Travis Gabbidon was been named Southland Conference Player of the Week for the second time this month, the league office announced on Monday.

Gabbidon averaged 24 points, 10.5 rebounds and four steals in a pair of games last week against Texas-Pan American and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Phoenix, Ariz., native shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the field and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the free throw line for the week and is posting 17 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest in league play.

He registered his second consecutive double-double with 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor and a season-high dozen rebounds to go along with a career-best six steals in the 83-72 victory over Texas-Pan American last Wednesday. That win gave UTSA a school-record nine non-conference victories on the season. He followed that performance with a season-high 25 points and nine boards in the 80-66 loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday.

Gabbidon also garnered the weekly award on Jan. 5 after averaging 19.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in victories against SMU and Colgate.

Five players received honorable mention this week, including Nicholls State swingman Anatoly Bose, Sam Houston State forward Barkley Falkner, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi guard Tim Green, Lamar forward Jay Brown and Texas State forward Cameron Johnson. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland men’s basketball sports information directors.
