The Student Union has expanded to the Downtown Campus, as part of the Presidential Initiative to improve the learning experience of who attend classes downtown.

“We want to turn the Downtown Campus into a thriving, urban campus,” said Herb Ganey, Executive Director of Student Union. The UTSA Main Campus Conference Center has been partly replaced by the new Student Union.

Rooms such as the Alamo Boardroom (DB 1.122), La Villita Room (DB 1.116), El Mercado Room (DB 1.208) and Buena Vista Assembly Room (BVB 1.338) are now occupied by the Student Union. This decision has invited many downtown students to play an active role as Roadrunners.

Since late September, students can find similar services, that were solely provided at the Main Campus, are now at the Downtown Campus as well. This includes movie nights, live music, meeting rooms and a game area where students can play pool and table tennis, located in the Bill Miller Plaza.

“We’re trying to make sure that we have at least something similar at the Downtown Campus,” Ganey said. One of the goals of the Presidential Initiative is to deliver an ideal living situation for their students. However, this transition has been a little challenging for students at the Downtown Campus.

“The Downtown Campus is not used to having a robust student life, as it is mostly composed of different departments. It’s a bit of a transition,” Ganey said.
