What to do with yourself this summer

What to do with yourself this summer

We have all been there: trudging through the last days of school, merely surviving until summer vacation. Then once it is all over, you have no idea what to do with yourself.

However, if you are determined not to repeat the monotony of summers past by wasting this summer vacation, pay attention.

For those of us lucky enough to have neither a job nor classes to take up our precious summer vacation, count your blessings and, for the sake of those who cannot, take a long trip to ponder the meaning of life.

But for those of us who do not have unlimited time or money, here are a few things to do with yourself this summer:

Take a day to go hiking, fishing, canoeing, or kayaking, or prolong the trip and go camping in any of the spots around San Antonio.

Make sure you plan ahead and look up the weather forecast.

Take up a hobby. Whether it is knitting, learning a new instrument or practicing a new sport, switch things up by giving your brain a challenge that does not include tests or assignments.

Learn something for the sake of learning and because it interests you.

You can brag all about it later.

Treat yourself to a mani-pedi or try any one of the DIY facials found on Pinterest: no matter what you will be doing this summer, it is important to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

Plenty of movies will be coming soon to theaters. Find some romance in June with Me Before You, catch some comedy in July with Ghostbusters or watch The Suicide Squad in August.

If you want to have fun while still being productive, try applying for an internship or volunteering.

Internships can be fun and informative and sometimes even provide compensation for your time.

It is a great way to learn more about your career or something in which you are interested.

Volunteering helps the community and can look good on any resume; volunteer at your church, the Food Bank, an animal shelter or at a local hospital.

In addition, it is always a great idea to start studying for entrance exams early, whether you will graduate in four years or only have one semester left.

Check out a study guide from the nearest public library or order one online.

All of this is not to say you couldn’t pull a classic “I-have-no-idea-what-to-do-with-myself-this-summer” move and watch Netflix till your eyes see red and you can quote Grey’s Anatomy or Dexter by heart.

However, you might want to consider trying new things, and finding new sights whether it is at home, school, or in your city. Have fun!
