A Dr.Suess themed creative session that welcomes artists to share and sell their work free of charge. The event, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, also gives artists the opportunity to win a gift card to Asels by entering the Suess-inspired Art Duel to be judged during a raffle at the end of the event. 9 p.m. Live Local Music

Sleepy Sun, Smoke & Feathers and Mount Sherpa will be performing at Limelight (2718 N St. Mary’s). Sleepy Sun is a blues-sounding jam band, from San Francisco, known for their live performances who have toured with the Arctic Monkeys and The Black Angels. Smoke & Feathers joins them from Austin with some “psychedelic southern funk,” and Mount Sherpa represents the local music scene with their instrumental set. This show promises a jumpstart to your weekend.

7 p.m. Art Opening

…And the Meek Shall Inherit the Earth is a solo exhibition by Phokus, curated by Aaron Garza, Jovan Somar and Raquel Zawrotny, which will be at the Espresso Gallery (529 San Pedro). The artist seeks to reclaim through modern “myth-making” at the local gallery slash espresso bar and should be your first stop before heading to the dance floor downtown. The exhibition will be up thru March 16.

SATX Music presents yet another show you will not want to miss. Dirty Genez, Quicksand, Critical Mass and Marina Katalina will perform at the Ten Eleven (1011 Avenue B). An indie rock show wrapped in a cozy dive bar on the river, the possibilities are endless. So why not purchase a disposable camera and grab your best friends for a memorable night at this venue.

10 p.m.- 1 p.m. Community Art & Education

SWU Leadership Day sponsors a silk-screening workshop at The Movement Gallery/Underground Library (1412 E. Commerce). Participants need to bring shirts or other materials they wish to print on. Learn how to silk-screen at home from members of the community. This is a free event for family, friends, musicians and artists can benefit as well by learning to share their work in an extraordinary way.

7 p.m. Film Screening

The 36th annual CineFestival will celebrate its opening night at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (723 S. Brazos) with a screening of “Cesar’s Last Fast,” a film directed by Richard Ray Perez and Lorena Parlee, that made its first appearance at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival World Premier. The film chronicles Cesar Chavez’s 36-day hunger strike that drew attention to the use of toxic pesticides. The film features rare footage and personal interviews that gives new depth to the historical figure. There will be a Q&A with the director after. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online at guadalupeculturalarts.org
