“Suds: The Rocking 60s Musical Soap Opera” is a comedy filled musical with 30 of the greatest hits from the 1960s. The setting of the musical is a laundromat in Hoboken, New Jersey in the early 1960s, with the entire musical taking place in one day. It follows a young girl, Cindy (Katherine Segapeli), who is searching for love on her birthday. The four-actor soap opera starts with an eager Cindy waiting for her birthday letter from her German pen pal to be delivered by Mr. Postman (Jonathan Pennington).

When she decides it is “The End of the World,” Cindy receives two guardian angels —Marge (Corina Zars) and Dee Dee (Jovi Lee Gonzales). Both guardian angels find Cindy stuck inside a washing machine; they think Cindy is dancing a new dance —“(The) Locomotion.” The audience laughs and dances while Cindy, Marge and Dee Dee dance their way to the locomotion.

Cindy’s guardian angels try their best to complete their assignment: making Cindy happy by finding her true love. Marge and Dee Dee sing and dance “You Can’t Hurry Love” for Cindy to understand the patience it takes in order to find Mr. Right.

When a local plumber (Jonathan Pennington) enters the laundromat with his “big wrench” to fix the broken machine, Dee Dee decides to make Cindy fall for the plumber. Dee Dee starts to sing and dance “Big Man” stating that Cindy should find herself a big man to come home to.

While listening to Dee Dee ramble, Marge decides that a woman should always be respected by the man she marries. Marge then starts to sing and dance “Respect.”

Throughout their comedic interactions, Cindy is still worried about finding Mr. Right on her birthday. The audience laughed and empathized with Cindy’s emotions. Her facial expressions and her reactions to the “lessons” her guardian angels teach her were hysterical. The love the audience felt for Cindy showed throughout the musical.

From the Beatles to Motown, the audience clapped their hands, swayed their shoulders and bobbed their heads. Take a study break and go to the Cameo Theatre (1123 E. Commerce St.) to sing along with this hilarious and entertaining musical.

The musical will be in town from February 1 through March 2. Admission is $33 for adults, $27 for Seniors, $22 for Military, $20 for students and $15 for children 12 and under. For tickets and showtimes, visit cameocenter.com.
