The San Pedro Playhouse became a time machine over these past two weeks, a musical time machine that is.
Beehive the 60’s Musical took audience members back with some of the 1960’s greatest performers: Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Leslie Gore, Connie Francis, Dusty Springfield, Petual Clark and many more.
The musical featured eight outstanding performers, including MaryClaire Becan, Jillian Cox, Drystal Sims-Evans, Megan DeYoung, Amanda Golden and Ana Hernandez, Constanza Aileen and Kate Miller.
Each member of the cast took turns singing the songs of a famous musical artist, switching wardrobes in between acts.
Not only did the show entertain, it also educated viewers of major events that took place during the period, such as Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech, the assasination of John F. Kennedy and the Vietnam War.
“The show was very exciting,” Chrastine Harr, an audience member said. “Some of these songs I have not heard since the actual 1960s.”
The show is guaranteed to have audience members dancing in the aisles and it did just that. A few audience members stood up and started doing the Twist with some of the performers.
“My husband and I come to the San Pedro Playhouse at least three times a year,” Harr said. “We love it [San Pedro Playhouse] so much that tonight we brought two more couples with us.”
San Pedro Playhouse’s season continues with: Curtains, Beoing, Boeing and The Music Man through August.
