Every dog has its day

The second Saturday of every month is dedicated to dogs at the San Antonio Urban Pet Market.

The new event will be a pet’s paradise as the market features all types of pet products and services in one place, including pet grooming, photography, accessories and of course, gourmet treats.

PAWsitively Sweet Bakery has partnered with San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA!), a nonprofit pet foster care organization, to establish this pet market.

The market’s mission is to provide pet lovers with a unique and creative shopping experience by allowing them to splurge on goodies for their companions and interact with other pet owners.

In addition, there will be a foster market where pet lovers have the opportunity to connect with a new pet in need of a home. Pet owners who are interested in going home with a new member of the family may receive half-off adoption fees.

Foster pet owner Elvira Boling says, “Fostering is so rewarding and so much fun.”

Portions of the proceeds collected from vendors and donors will help support SAPA!’s life-saving mission as they work toward making San Antonio a no-kill city.

The event will also promote adoptions by showcasing a pet fashion show by Project Rescue Runway, which features SAPA! foster animals in Pooch House Couture strutting their tails on the red carpet.

Other vendors will include Pawderosa Ranch Dog Play & Stay, Bed & Biscuit Pet Care, The Pooch House Pet Couture, Spoiled Rotten Pet Care and The Pooparazzi Pet Waste Removals.

James Gonzalez was among the other pet owners at the market, along with his Boston terrier, Jack and his Shepherd-Beagle mix, Lilly.

“We heard about it and it just seems like a great opportunity to bring them out just to have fun,” Gonzalez said.

Another pet owner among the crowd, who wishes to remain anonymous, loves to spoil her pets and refers to them as her “kids.” “All my kids get primarily treats and toys… My four-legged kids are easier to take care of than my two-legged ones.”

The market is located at the Paul Jolly Adoption Center Petco Pavilion directly across from the San Antonio Zoo entrance. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m.
