​Celebrate the end of the semester with the top five books to read this summer

As UTSA students study for finals and exceed the amount of stress they can handle, “The Paisano” gathered the five top books readers should pick up for the summer.

“Gone Girl” and “The Maze Runner” will be in theaters soon. “Reconstructing Amelia” is rumored to have an HBO movie in the making. Students will have the opportunity to find these books at the UTSA library in the Popular Reading section or the Young Adult section.

1. “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn

This #1 New York Times Best Seller is about Nick and Amy’s fifth wedding anniversary. As they celebrate by receiving gifts, Amy disappears. All the attention turns to Nick as Amy’s disappearance turns into a city-wide search. Nick’s behavior and his lies throughout the investigation turn him into a suspect. Is he the killer or is there something the police and Amy’s family do not know?

2. “Fangirl”by Rainbow Rowell

The young adult novel is a coming-of-age story about fan fiction and first love. Cath and her twin sister are fangirls of a popular book series. Cath goes off to college, but she realizes her sister is drifting away from Cath and the fangirl days. Cath then needs to learn how to live outside her comfort zone.

3. “Eleanor & Park”by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor and Park are two half-American and half-Korean teenagers who live in Omaha, Nebraska in 1986. The young adult novel is about their experiences with race issues and child abuse. Rowell introduces the young couple’s love for each other along with realistic issues people face in their everyday lives.

4. “The Maze Runner”by James Dashner

The Glade is a place where Thomas is sent without memories of his past. The Glade is surrounded by a giant maze with unknown creatures. Every month a new boy is sent there by a box; however, there was never a girl introduced until Teresa is sent. She is the last person that is sent to the Glade. Throughout the novel, young boys and Teresa need to fight for their lives and escape the Glade.

5. “Reconstructing Amelia”by Kimberly McCreight

Kate’s daughter, Amelia, has been caught cheating in school. As soon as she arrives at Amelia’s school, the single mother is shocked by the fact her daughter is dead. According to the school Amelia jumped. When Kate receives the news, a text message says: “Amelia didn’t jump.” Throughout the novel, Kate is reconstructing Amelia’s text messages and Facebook posts to figure out what really happened to her missing daughter.
