The Paisano

And the best taco goes to . . .

The votes are in and the ballots have been counted. The Paisano staff was curious about the best taco in San Antonio, and San Antonio answered. Ricky’s Tacos beat its opponents with  38 percent of the vote with its closest competitor, Mama Margies, coming in second with 29 percent in a close race for The Paisano’s 2011 top taco contest. Chela’s Tacos and Taqueria Datapoint each tied for 3rd place with 16 percent of the vote.

Ricky’s couldn’t be in a more convenient location for UTSA students. Located on UTSA Blvd. across the street from the Shell Station, Ricky’s caters to the late-night Cantina crowd, and they also provide a great option for late night UTSA students looking for an affordable snack.

Late night patrons have a variety of menu options when ordering from Ricky’s. The most popular menu item tends to be their delicious mini-tacos. Each order comes with four tacos with your choice of filling inside of a corn tortilla. The taco filling includes favorites such as al pastor, carne asada and chicken fajita.

Other menu items include burritos, flour tortilla tacos, tortas and quesadillas, including the “Hussein Special” quesadillas, which is a double stacked quesadilla served with three homemade flour tortillas and a choice of two meats.

Salsa aficionados will be in heaven when they try each of Ricky’s homemade salsas. The salsas include a green chili salsa, a red chili salsa, avocado salsa, and their special creamy jalapeno salsa. Try all four at once for the ultimate ‘mouthgasm.’

Don’t be deceived by its appearance. Ricky’s packs a punch for being a small taco truck; its competition for any full size restaurant.

If you somehow find yourself outside of the Cantina late at night, check out Ricky’s Taco Truck Wednesday through Saturday from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m.
