Entertainment Weekly recently named Alamo Drafthouse one of the top 10 movie theatres in the country. The reasons?
Consider the buckets of beer, midnight movies, 80’s movies sing-alongs, filmmaker Q&A’s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fight club, vintage video games in the lobby, and full food menu.
Alamo Drafthouse started as a single theater in Austin, Texas that combined movie entertainment with a restaurant atmosphere. The theater franchise has since grown to nine locations operating in Austin, Houston, San Antonio-even one franchise theater in Winchester, Virginia.
The Drafthouse provides moviegoers an extensive array of not just popcorn and pickles, but a full menu of freshly prepared appetizers, sandwiches, salads, and pizza as well as a large variety of hand-crafted beer (on tap) and wine. In addition to showing newly released movies, the Drafthouse also offers specialty programs, TV shows and sporting events.
What makes the Drafthouse so awesome? It is an upbeat and inviting venue known not only for showing movies, but also for putting on events ranging from serving a five-course Italian meal while showing “The Godfather,” to hosting a yearly Halloween extravaganza of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
President and CEO John Martin, says “You’re getting the best of both worlds at Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas.” Entertainment Weekly’s recognition went on to say the Drathouse is the “number 1 theatre in the country doing it right.”
So what’s next for the Drafthouse? There is a growing demand for the cinema-eatery concept so the hope is to expand not only within the state, but nationwide and to give moviegoers a unique movie experience.
